Working from home may be something of a dream to many can quickly become a nightmare of organization and productivity, therefore the following is a brief look at four key tips for maximizing home office efficiency for any home worker: Portion Out Tasks – Group tasks together that are similar in nature or can be done side by side, such as replying to emails, filing or perhaps making any outgoing phone-calls. By batching tasks rather than dipping in any out of them throughout the course of the day it is possible to save quite massive amounts of time, while also allowing each task to be satisfyingly ticked off the list as the day goes by.
Some people make light of company web-sites, and to be honest I can see where they’re coming from. Many company sites are dull, boring, lifeless, hopeless wastes of time. Yes they mean well and most of the time they are successful, but do they ignite the passion of a generation? Um…not really. In fact, much of the time people don’t stay awake long enough to actually feel any heat…
on the other hand, is a very different kettle of fish. Interesting and insightful, the web-site contains a lot of interesting details and also looks really good. Thanks to this, all the bases are covered and a potential customer feels like he wants to do business with the firm. A great thing for all involved, and just the thing which makes the world go round!
Do use testimonials: they’re a great idea because they prove your firm has had success…
Are you one for the outdoors? Do you enjoy rummaging around in the woods and exploring the undergrowth of uncharted forests near you? I am one and I do! Both are things I used to do as a child, and any time I get the chance I still try to (as really I am just one enormous child).
So, when I saw a flyer taped to a lamp post telling about a river clear up day at the weekend, you could say I was up for it. And I really was. When the day came I put my wellies on and got to it nice and early, and this is how it went.
I was there by the river before anyone else was. It was 9am and quite cold, but as I saw people walking across the field towards me – all of them carrying spades and those hand-grabber things for snatching things off the floor – I knew I had made the right decision getting out of bed.
When they reached me, we all shook hands and the leader of the group – Simon – explained what we were here to do (pick up lots of discarded plastic packaging and the like from the river and its banks). Then, we climbed through the long grass and trees and met the river, found where we were to begin.
Stopping the flow of the water was loads of plastic which had clearly been dumped in from the other side. It looked horrendous, and although there were ducks on the river they couldn’t get past the nasty stuff
I was shocked and appalled at what lay before us. Here was a stretch of river much like the rest of it, but this part was anything but natural. Stopping the flow of the water was loads of plastic which had clearly been dumped in from the other side. It looked horrendous, and although there were ducks on the river they couldn’t get past the nasty stuff, so were not able to get further down stream.
After an hour, we still hadn’t cleared it. Simon was his usual calm self but even he was showing signs of anger, which seemed distinctly un-Simon-like. When I asked him how common this was, he responded with “all too, I’m afraid.” I got the impression that although we were doing a great job, that great job wouldn’t last forever…probably, in 6 months this place would be right back to square one…
My words to people dumping waste would be this: please don’t. But if you must continue dumping then rest assured, sooner or later you’ll get caught, and when you do I highly doubt the judge will be lenient.
You can make extra time in your day just by better organizing the way you approach your everyday jobs. Look at each area you are involved in at work and see where you can make improvements. Here are ways you can improve productivity:
Communication: One of the most important skills to have in any type of business is communication. It doesn’t matter if you work in retail, in a bank or creating free antivirus virus software. When you communicate with Read the rest of this entry »
I’ve been using an energy monitor in my house the past week or so and it’s interesting to see what happens on a day-to-day basis. I’m not sure exactly how accurate it is but what are really fascinating are the massive jumps that occur when using certain household items. For example the hoover creates a massive jump in the amount we’re using as does the toaster, not that we use the toaster of hoover all day every day but they Read the rest of this entry »
Throughout my life, people have called me ’the ideas monster’. Explaining why is very simple as I have now done it about a thousand times: they call me this because no matter what time of the day it is, ideas come out of me thick and fast and I always write them down. Here is why I write them down and you should too:
Forget nuclear power and solving world peace: if you ask me, it’s ideas that will save the world from its troublesome ways. The only problem with this picture? Not enough of us actually write our ideas down.
My old college professor, when he wasn’t moaning about things like celebrities and laser hair removal berkshire, used to say things like this to me: “you know young man, it’s ideas that we need more of.”
I admit it: when I first heard about Country House Rescue, presented by that Ruth Watson (?) woman with the blonde fringe and aggressive streak, I was thinking it was going to be another rubbishy documentary.
Oh, how I was wrong. In fact, it turns out that this new-ish programme, born and bred by Channel 4, is really quite good. For a few key reasons such as the following ones I shall list here.
People don’t know. They THINK they know, they know how to use Google to get information, and they think that qualifies them as KNOWING! Well, my name is Shazzer and I am here to tell you that this is not the case, actually, far from it. For example, upon seeing the aforementioned name “Shazzer” you may well think that this must mean I was born “Sharon”. Well here’s one for the grandkids: I wasn’t! I was born something else, so there (and I shall leave it at that, just to further punish everyone I am getting at with this article, ha!)
The point is this: I can be a bit old-fashioned. I like the old Argos discount codes that I used to know and love, and I like the way Opal Fruits (as opposed to Starburst) tasted. I like, also, the words we used to use regularly, and I like to employ them where necessary, even at my peril. Like “handsome”. Now, years ago you could say that a woman looked handsome, and you would not get a funny look, but now you can’t, no. Now it’s changed. Nowadays if you call a woman handsome then they say “but that’s how you describe a man, idiot”. And this is not limited to just this example, of course. There are millions of ways that the modern age has distorted or changed things from how they used to be, into ways which aren’t necessarily any better. In some cases as I have proven, they are just wrong, so there.
What to do about it? I don’t know. I am but one person in this world of billions of living things. I guess my hope is that YOU might read this and feel the same. Who knows, maybe a revolution is in order?
’I am leaving, leaving on a night train’ I hum along making my way speedily to the train station. It could be Shanghai in ’94 with hordes of people on cheap bicycles, it could be Boston in ’90 with the dropped ’r’s’on the “T”. It could be London in ’03 with an Oyster Card. Too many night trains, too many hurried coffees too many foggy mornings with too much mist. Too many slow boats with sails rising in the Read the rest of this entry »
