Twin Peaks: A Lost Gem.

Twin Peaks has got to be one of the greatest television shows ever made. Everything about it was perfect; the story, the actors, the music, the photography and the total weirdness. When it was axed there were a lot of very disgruntled viewers. In fact, there were even several protest marches where people walked through the streets carrying logs and cherry pies (unless you have seen the show you will not understand…).

Bearing in mind how popular the show was, it is surprising that nothing has been done with it since. But David Lynch got a little bit disillusioned with it all after being continually messed around by the people he was dealing with. He and Mark Snow said in an interview that the identity of Laura Palmer’s killer was never supposed to have been disclosed, but they found that they were being put under an enormous amount of pressure.

After Lynch released a prequel to the series, ‘Fire Walk with Me’ it was hoped (and actually promised) that a third season of Twin Peaks would go into production. There was still a lot of bickering going on behind the scenes and David Lynch had finally had enough; ‘Fire Walk with Me’ itself had only been funded after a long and draining battle. We can only hope that things change one day and David Lynch goes back to making more of ‘Twin Peaks’.

Perhaps there will come a time when the people who hold the purse strings realise that you do not mistreat an artist. If someone can create something as hugely popular as this show, then you treat then with a little more respect. But it would seem this is a lesson that is never learned, because it has gone on with filmmakers, musicians and artists so very many times before.
